COVID-19 Wedding Advice from DC Wedding Florist: Defining Intimate Weddings

As we mentioned in our last post here, the landscape of weddings and wedding flowers has changed over the past few weeks and months as a result of the coronavirus. However, we still believe couples can celebrate throughout 2021 and beyond. As a DC wedding florist, we are tasked with infusing our industry with creativity, and this has offered us the opportunity to embrace intimate weddings and our intimate floral collection. If you have chosen to adjust your guest list and size down your wedding or you’re in the process of seeing if it might be the right decision for you, we thought we would provide more insight into the types of intimate weddings we expect to remain as a possibility throughout the rest of the year (and beyond!).

Elopement Wedding Flowers:

The best place to start to define intimate weddings is with elopements. They have the smallest possible guest list after all! When you hear the word “elopement”, visions of a couple escaping together to tie the knot alone typically come to mind. However, that’s not always the case! As a DC wedding florist, we have designed wedding flowers for beautiful elopements that have been attended by a photographer and an officiant. We have also created wedding flower arches for couples who decided an elopement attended by their parents, siblings, or closest friends felt right for them. Post vows, you can also still enjoy a first dance, parent dances, and even a relaxed meal together. No matter how small the guest list, we love the heart behind elopements because the focus always remains on the couple and the love they share together.

Micro or Intimate Wedding Flowers:

Throughout the wedding industry, micro weddings have become a prime topic of discussion. This type of wedding, which is also known as an intimate wedding, is one of the best options for couples hoping to celebrate their wedding in 2021 because the guest list remains small but it’s slightly larger than the number of people who may witness an elopement.

Micro or intimate weddings often have up to 25 guests in attendance – a guest count that matches phase two plans in many cities – and they typically include a ceremony and cocktail style hour (or two) post vows. In terms of wedding flowers, couples typically want to have a bridal bouquet and boutonniere for the bride and groom, an arch or chuppah, and a few centerpieces scattered throughout the venue from our Klassy Intimate Floral Collection. Because the wedding flowers are more limited, we have been able to create an intimate floral collection to accommodate these celebrations!

If you choose to host an intimate wedding, you can definitely still plan to welcome guests to a larger reception at a later date. But, we believe they are an excellent way to continue to honor your original wedding day in a way that still feels celebratory.

Mini Wedding:

When you think of mini weddings, we want you to imagine your original wedding just scaled down. Typically, these will be attended by up to 50 people and they tend to still include many of the same key elements as a larger wedding. You will still walk down the aisle during your ceremony, many couples opt to share all of the important dances, and a meal is served as well. In many ways, our Klassy Intimate Floral Collection is still a great fit for these celebrations because there is still a need to bring beauty to your venue through wedding flowers but you will likely have far fewer tables than you initially planned.

Postponing your wedding to a later date is always an option, but we have loved discovering new ways we hope couples will feel encouraged to still celebrate their wedding days in 2020. Who knows? Elopements, intimate, and mini weddings with floral designs from our Klassy Intimate Floral Collection may continue to be popular next year and beyond.
