What are fall flowers for a wedding?

Because it impacts many of the details that will follow, including your wedding flowers, one of the most important things to do as you begin to plan your wedding is to envision the seasons in which you might decide to recite your vows. Each season has its own benefits, available wedding flowers in-season options, and beautiful weather, and today I thought I would explore all of the benefits of the fall.

The color palettes for fall wedding days are rich and stunning, venues have views of changing foliage, and the weather is often still warm enough for plenty of photographs and celebrations outside. Plus, there is an abundance of wedding flowers available!

In my opinion, it would not be the fall without today’s highlighted wedding flowers in our Blooms by Season series, so let’s talk more about calla lilies, French tulips, gardenias, and ranunculus.

Fall Wedding Flowers we love:

Similar to the wedding flowers we mentioned as part of our summer in-season wedding flower roundup, our go-to fall wedding flowers each serve a unique and beautiful purpose when we’re designing bouquets and arrangements for ceremonies and receptions. Varying the flowers used in each arrangement helps to add elegance and interest, so below we’re sharing how we use our top four fall flowers.

Calla Lily: When couples mention one of their favorite flowers is calla lilies, I always feel an extra spark of inspiration. They are one of the most versatile wedding flowers because they feel equally as appropriate in a modern wedding design as they do in one that leans toward classic, elegant, and formal. When describing how to use calla lilies, I always say the options are endless! Standard varieties look beautiful in bouquets, ceremony altar arrangements, and tall reception centerpieces, while mini calla lilies are perfect for boutonnieres and corsages.

French Tulips: Tulips are often associated with the spring, but French tulip season peaks during the fall and continues for many months after! I love the delicate look of French tulips, especially when they’re included in bride and bridesmaid bouquets. Plus, they are wonderful to use in centerpieces. One wonderful trend we have been seeing and is a monochromatic floral look where a single floral variety and color is used in statement pieces, like centerpieces. French tulips are perfect for it and always look so modern and classic.

Gardenia: If you associate flowers with fragrance, gardenia should definitely be a flower you consider using at your fall wedding! These ivory blooms will always be a classic choice to include in wedding flower designs, and they are one example of a flower that can be used sparingly while still creating an incredible impact. Turn to gardenias for bouquets, and corsages.

Ranunculus: Ranunculus burst into season during the fall, which is a perfect time because some blooms have the same appearance as peonies and garden roses! They are available in a beautiful variety of colors, and the uses for ranunculus are plentiful. I love incorporating them into bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids, corsages for parents, and boutonnieres for the gents. They’re also perfect as singular blooms in bud vases on cocktail tables.,

Additional Facts About Fall Wedding Flowers:

While some wedding flowers are only available during certain seasons, others are available throughout the year. If you’re drawn toward calla lilies, the excellent news is they are one of the wedding flowers that fall under the yearlong seasonal category. They are one of the most timeless flowers, and we definitely do opt for them no matter the season!
